How Does the Malaysia Student Visa Work?
Indian students need a Student Pass, applied for through Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS). Your university submits your application once you accept an offer.
- Accept your offer and send your documents to your university.
- Your university submits your application to EMGS and you pay the processing fee.
- Receive your electronic visa approval letter (eVAL), usually in 4 to 6 weeks.
- Travel to Malaysia and complete your medical screening within 7 days of arrival.
- Your university arranges your Student Pass endorsement and i-Kad.
Because most university intakes in Malaysia run in February, July and September, aim to accept your offer at least two to three months before your start date to leave time for the eVAL.
Can Indian Students Work While Studying in Malaysia?
Yes, but only in limited circumstances. International students can work up to 20 hours a week during semester breaks or holidays longer than 7 days, not during term time.
- Permitted sectors: Restaurants, petrol kiosks, mini markets and hotels
- Approval: You apply through your university, and the Immigration Department must approve it
- Internships: Internships that are part of your course are generally allowed

Can Indian Students Stay in Malaysia After Graduation?
Yes, through the Graduate Pass, if eligibility for Indian nationals continues. The pass lets bachelor’s, master’s and PhD graduates of Malaysian institutions stay for 12 months to look for work, intern or travel.

- Other conditions: A valid Student Pass when you apply, a passport valid for at least 18 months, health insurance, and a personal bond from a Malaysian sponsor

Are Malaysian Degrees Recognised in India?
