Queen’s University Belfast has been named UK University of the Year 2026 at the Whatuni Student Choice Awards, with its Students’ Union also ranked best in the UK for the second consecutive year.
The Whatuni Student Choice Awards are the UK’s largest student‑voted university awards, with winners decided entirely by current students. This year, Queen’s secured four category wins, including top recognition for Student Support and Student Life.
Students highlighted a strong sense of community, high‑quality teaching and a lively campus atmosphere. The Students’ Union was praised for its welcoming environment, supportive staff and active social scene, with many reviewers describing it as central to their overall university experience.
Queen’s also achieved outstanding results beyond student life, placing in the UK’s top three for Career Prospects and ranking second nationally for Postgraduate provision, Facilities and International Student Experience, key considerations for applicants evaluating support, resources and employability outcomes.
Speaking about the achievement, President and Vice‑Chancellor, Professor Sir Ian Greer, said:
“Being recognised across such a broad range of categories, and named University of the Year and Students’ Union of the Year, is a tremendous achievement for Queen’s and reflects the outstanding experience we strive to provide at every stage of university life.”
For international students considering the UK, these results provide clear, student‑led evidence of the quality of support, community and overall experience available at Queen’s.
