The latest data from UCAS, covering the 30th June 2026 application deadline, confirms that UK undergraduate study is drawing more applicants than ever before, with international interest continuing to strengthen.
According to UCAS, a total of 695,740 applicants across all ages and domiciles applied for UK undergraduate courses in the 2026 cycle by this deadline, the highest figure on record and up from 665,070 last year, a rise of 4.6%.
Within this growth, international applicants (all ages) rose to 148,350, up 7.1% from 138,460 in 2025. The increase was led by applicants from China, who added 4,140 more applications this cycle, a jump of 12% year on year.
UCAS has noted that its figures give only a partial picture of international admissions, since not every applicant applies through the UCAS scheme, and the data excludes pre-degree, postgraduate taught, and postgraduate research routes.
Even so, the trend is one study abroad aspirants should pay attention to. UK universities are seeing sustained, and in some source markets accelerating, demand from international students, alongside a 5.0% rise in UK 18 year old applicants to 344,760.
For International students, the takeaway is simple: apply early. Rising applicant volumes typically mean tighter offer rounds at popular universities and courses, which makes a well-researched shortlist, a strong personal statement, and realistic timelines more important than ever.
