The National University of Singapore (NUS) has climbed to 15th in the world in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027, its highest position since the rankings began. Released on 30th September 2026, the results move NUS up two places from 17th and keep it 3rd in Asia and 1st in Singapore.
The rise was driven largely by stronger teaching and research scores. THE assessed 2,297 universities across 118 countries and territories this year, using 17 performance indicators covering teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry. Phil Baty, THE’s Chief of Global Affairs, called it a “remarkable achievement“, noting that NUS performs strongly across every core pillar of the rankings.
The result also puts three Asian universities in the global top 15 for the first time, with NUS joining Tsinghua University (11th) and Peking University (13th). With Nanyang Technological University (NTU) rising to 28th, Singapore now has two universities in the world’s top 30.
For Indian students, this adds weight to Singapore as a destination for a globally ranked, research-led degree closer to home. It’s especially relevant if you’re interested in AI and tech, as NUS has introduced a compulsory foundational AI module for all first-year undergraduates from Academic Year 2026/2027.
