University of York Admissions Changes

26 November 2020

The University of York has recently made changes to their admissions requirements and process, outlined below.

If you have further questions regarding applications or admissions requirements, please email [email protected].

Changes to US undergraduate entry requirements:

York will no longer use the ACT or SAT-R when reviewing US high school applicants or other applicants studying in a US system. They recognise how difficult it has been to take these tests due to the pandemic, and instead will look for either 3 APs or 3 SAT subject tests or a combination of these. Additionally, one of the above APs or SAT subject tests can be replaced with an honours class or a college-level class at B+ or higher. For example, 2 APs and an honours class is acceptable.

Changes to PGT reference requirements:

York will no longer need a reference for PGT applicants as a default. Most students will be able to receive an offer without providing a reference and won’t need a reference to go unconditional. However, they still request the referee information in case they do need a reference (For example, if a student has had a long gap from education or is switching fields).

Changes to the admissions process for Law LLB and LLBS:

These programmes no longer have a skype interview. Instead, before receiving an offer applicants will be asked to complete a short self-assessment to make sure they are comfortable with the problem based learning (PBL) teaching style on both programmes.
