Best Business Schools in the UK: FT Rankings for 2027 Entry

London Business School is the best business school in the UK, ranked 3rd in Europe in the Financial Times (FT) European Business School Rankings, published in December 2025. The UK has 18 schools in the FT’s European top 100, second only to France. That gives international students a wide choice of world-class MBA, master’s, and undergraduate business programmes.

This page explains how the FT ranks UK business schools and lists the top-ranked schools. It also covers the costs, entry requirements, and career outcomes international students should compare before applying for 2027 entry.

How Does the FT Rank UK Business Schools?

The FT European Business School Rankings combine a school’s results across the FT’s individual programme rankings:

  • Full-time MBA ranking: 25%
  • Executive MBA ranking: 25%
  • Masters in Management ranking: 25%
  • Executive education rankings: 25%

Each programme ranking draws on alumni and school data, including salary three years after graduation, career progress, international mobility, and faculty diversity. Schools need a strong presence across several programmes to rank highly overall. As a result, a school can rank higher for one programme, such as the MBA, than in the overall table. The FT publishes the European ranking every December.

These are the highest-ranked UK business schools in the FT European Business School Rankings 2025, published in December 2025. The next edition is due in December 2026.

Which Business Programmes Can You Study in the UK?

Programme Typical Length Typical Entry Profile
Undergraduate business degree Three years, or four in Scotland School-leaving qualifications, with applications through UCAS
Masters in Management (MiM) One year Recent graduates with little or no work experience
Specialist master’s (Finance, Marketing, Business Analytics) One year A relevant or quantitative bachelor’s degree
Full-time MBA One year at most schools, up to around 21 months at some Several years of professional experience
Executive MBA Around two years, part-time Senior professionals studying alongside work

Part-time and executive programmes don’t usually lead to a Student visa, so most international students choose a full-time MBA, a MiM, or a specialist master’s.

How Much Does Business School Cost in the UK?

Business school fees vary widely by programme and school. Figures below were correct as of October 2026, so always check the current fees for each programme with a StudyIn counsellor.

Cost Typical Amount (GBP)
Full-time MBA tuition Around £30,000 at many universities, rising to over £100,000 at the most prestigious schools
Business master’s tuition Around £20,000 to £45,000
Visa maintenance requirement £1,570 per month in London or £1,203 elsewhere, up to nine months
Student visa fee £558
Immigration Health Surcharge £776 per year of visa

Many of the top schools are in London, where living costs and the visa maintenance requirement are highest. Business schools often offer merit-based and diversity scholarships, and some MBA applicants qualify for national schemes such as Chevening. See UK scholarships for international students for more.

Expert View

“Strong MBA applications show a clear before and after: where your career is now, what the MBA adds, and the role you’re targeting afterwards. Admissions teams at top UK schools look for that story as much as a high GMAT score.” – Harsh Khemka, Counsellor, StudyIn.

What Are the Entry Requirements for UK Business Schools?

Requirements depend on the programme and school, but international applicants are usually asked for:

  • A bachelor’s degree, with a strong 2:1 or the international equivalent for most master’s programmes
  • Professional work experience for an MBA, often three years or more at top schools
  • GMAT or GRE scores, which many top schools require for the MBA, although some offer waivers
  • English test results, with IELTS 7.0 or equivalent common at leading schools
  • Essays, a CV, and professional or academic references
  • An interview, for most MBA and many master’s programmes

What Can You Do After Business School in the UK?

After graduating, the Graduate Route lets international students stay in the UK and work, or look for work, without a sponsor. From January 2027, it lasts 18 months for bachelor’s and master’s graduates, including MBA graduates. Many graduates then move to a Skilled Worker visa with an employer in finance, consulting, technology, or another sector.

The FT’s own data shows strong salary outcomes for graduates of top UK business schools, but results vary by programme, sector, and previous experience. Weigh the total cost against realistic outcomes for your career goals, rather than headline averages.

If you plan to bring family, note that students on taught master’s and MBA programmes can’t usually bring dependants on a Student visa. Check the UK Student visa requirements for details.

How to Choose the Right UK Business School

  • Compare programme rankings, not just overall rankings, because a school’s MBA or MiM can rank higher or lower than the school overall
  • Check accreditation from AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS, with schools holding all three known as triple-accredited
  • Consider location and industry links, such as London for finance and consulting
  • Compare total cost, programme length, and scholarship availability
  • Look at career services and alumni networks in your target sector and region
