Overview
OnCampus South East Technological University gives international students a supported pathway into one of Ireland's largest and newest technological universities. Students first complete a foundation programme with OnCampus Ireland, before progressing into a degree at SETU, subject to meeting the required academic and English language standards.
SETU has global partnerships with approximately 300 institutions across 45 countries, offering strong mobility opportunities alongside dual-degree and pathway programmes. Its research activity spans advanced manufacturing, ICT, life sciences and the creative industries, with a commitment to increasing research expenditure to €27.5 million by 2028, supported by collaborations with innovation centres such as ArcLabs.
As Ireland's first technological university in the south-east, SETU positions itself as a contemporary, student-centred institution that combines applied research, industry partnerships and regional impact with a genuinely international outlook, all within a welcoming, supportive campus environment.
Services
SETU is a student-centred institution built around a strong and supportive environment, with dedicated staff at each campus focused on academic, personal and professional development. Students benefit from SETU's extensive global partnership network, spanning around 300 institutions in 45 countries, which supports exchange opportunities and a genuinely international outlook throughout their studies.
Before progression, OnCampus Ireland's dedicated Student Support team guides students through their foundation studies, helping ease the academic and practical transition into full degree study at SETU. Because SETU offers only one main intake per year for international students, OnCampus Ireland's structured pathway gives students a clear, well-planned route to secure their place in good time.
Rankings
As a technological university formed only in 2022, SETU does not yet feature prominently in long-established global league tables, but it is recognised as one of Ireland's largest technological universities by student numbers, with around 18,000 students and more than 1,500 staff.
Accommodation
Accommodation for students progressing to SETU varies by campus, with on-campus and nearby private rental options available across Waterford, Carlow and Wexford; students are advised to confirm current options directly with the relevant campus ahead of arrival.
Before progressing to SETU, students based at OnCampus Ireland's Maynooth centre can access accommodation including The Duke on Maynooth's Main Street, homestay arrangements through OnCampus's accommodation partner, and further options via the dedicated OnCampus booking portal.
Location
SETU's campuses are spread across the south-east of Ireland, in Waterford, Carlow, Wexford, Wicklow and Kilkenny, giving students a choice of settings from historic coastal cities to smaller, close-knit towns. Waterford, Ireland's oldest city, and Wexford both offer rich heritage, coastal scenery and a relaxed pace of life, while Carlow provides a compact, welcoming base for study.
