Overview
Located in the heart of central London, the UCL Institute of Education (IOE) is a global hub of ideas and debate in education and related social sciences and has a true commitment to research and teaching excellence. World-renowned academic staff conduct research for governments, ministries, schools and universities, meaning that the Institute’s expertise continually influences and shapes educational policy across the world.
The IOE has been ranked as the best university in the world for the study of Education for the last eight years (QS World University Rankings by Subject) and also received the Queen’s Anniversary Prize, a celebration of excellence, innovation and public benefit in work carried out by UK colleges and universities, in 2015.

Courses available at undergraduate level include the Education Studies BA, Media BA and Sociology BSc, whilst there are over 50 graduate taught programmes including Art and Design in Education MA, Education MA and Engineering and Education MA. International short courses are also available.
Services
Orientation days take place for all non-UK students at the start of each year, and will involve information on London, opening a bank account, working in the UK, as well as practical advice on day-to-day living. Pre-sessional English lessons are also available if you need to improve your reading, writing, speaking, listening before your studies.
Rankings
The UCL Institute of Education has been ranked number one for Education worldwide since 2014 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.
In the most recent Research Excellence Framework, the UCL Institute of Education impressed across all subjects and its performance placed it in the top 10 universities in the UK. It is currently ranked first in the UK for research strength.
Accommodation
University College London provides a range of housing options which includes two Halls of Residence (catered), self-catered Student Houses and Intercollegiate Halls (both catered and self-catered) shared with other colleges of the University of London.
Location
UCL Institute of Education is based in the centre of London by Russell Square. The area is served by many bus and tube routes, with main hubs such as Euston and King’s Cross a short walk away. Access to Heathrow, Stansted and Gatwick airports is also extremely easy for students flying in from around the world.
