Overview
Canadian University Dubai (CUD) offers a Canadian-inspired degree in one of the Middle East’s most dynamic cities. Founded in 2006 and now marking 20 years in the UAE, the private university is based at City Walk in central Dubai and is licensed by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. QS has ranked it the number one university in Dubai for six consecutive years.
What really sets CUD apart is its transfer model. Every academic programme gives students the option to begin their degree in Dubai and then move, with credit, to a partner institution in Canada or elsewhere, typically after one or two years. Past students have gone on to graduate from the University of Toronto, McGill University, and the University of British Columbia, while collaborations with Queen’s University and Brock University help shape the curriculum. For students who want a route to Canada with a more affordable, closer-to-home start, that flexibility is a genuine advantage.
Canadian University Dubai offers more than 30 specialised majors, concentrations, and accredited programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level, spanning business, engineering, computing, communication, architecture and interior design, and the creative industries. Teaching is in English, delivered by one of the most international faculties of any university worldwide.
The student body is just as global, with more than 140 nationalities on campus. Entrepreneurship runs through university life too, with the CUD Incubator acting as a business hub where students turn start-up ideas into real ventures. CUD is also known for celebrating graduation in style, having held past ceremonies at Dubai Opera, Dubai World Trade Centre, the Burj Khalifa, and Expo 2020 Dubai.
Services
Support at Canadian University Dubai begins before you arrive. Once tuition is paid, the university applies for your UAE student residence visa on your behalf, and the visa services desk at the registration counter in Hall C then handles passport stamping, Emirates ID paperwork, and annual renewals. New students also take part in an orientation programme covering the campus, the student portal, and key contacts.
Day-to-day support is led by the Student Affairs department, which oversees health services, counselling, sport, and events. The Student Success Center helps with study strategies, assignments, and maths and English skills, while Career Services offers career advice, a jobs portal, and an annual Career Fair. Outside class, students can join more than 15 clubs, including the CUD Robotics Club, or stand for the elected Student Council.

Rankings
Canadian University Dubai has been ranked the top university in Dubai by the QS World University Rankings for six consecutive years, placing =616th worldwide in the 2027 edition. It also sits 21st in the QS Arab Region Rankings 2026.
CUD’s international profile is a particular strength, ranking 4th in the world for International Faculty and 6th for International Students in the QS World University Rankings 2025. The university holds a Five-Star rating under the QS Stars system and features in the 101–200 band of the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2026.
Accommodation
CUD Residence is the university’s own student housing, open to UAE residents and international students alike and located just minutes from the City Walk campus. Building 1 offers semi-furnished studios and two-bedroom apartments with free high-speed Wi-Fi and DEWA utilities included, and a second accommodation option has recently been added. A daily shuttle connects residents to campus, with the Dubai Metro, supermarkets, and laundry services close by. Rooms are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, with no more than two occupants per bedroom or studio, so it pays to apply early.

Location
Few universities can claim a campus as central as Canadian University Dubai’s. City Walk is an open-air lifestyle district packed with shops, cafés, restaurants, and entertainment, and CUD students can use their ID cards for discounts at many of its outlets.
The campus is within easy reach of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), Downtown Dubai, Dubai Design District, and Dubai World Trade Centre, putting internships and industry networking close at hand. The Burj Khalifa and The Dubai Mall are a short drive away, while the beaches of Jumeirah, including La Mer, make for easy weekend escapes.
Getting around is simple. The Dubai Metro Red Line runs nearby along Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai International Airport (DXB) is around 20 minutes away by car outside peak hours, and Abu Dhabi is roughly 90 minutes by road.
